The World is Watching - Free Burma!
As news of the military junta's atrocities in Burma/Myanmar ripples around the world a enormous groundswell of protest is gathering steam. Over 1/2 a million people have already signed the Avaaz petition to pressure China and the UN Security Council to "oppose the violent crackdown on the demonstrators, and to support genuine reconciliation and democracy in Burma". They hope to have a million signatures by Saturday. Add your name now!
Dozens of countries are holding events on October 6 for the Day of International Action for Burma. Information on organizing your own event is here.
And online, a coalition of bloggers is organizing an International Bloggers' Day for Burma on the 4th of October. So far, nearly 5000 bloggers have pledged to refrain from posting on October 4 and to replace their regular posts with a Free Burma banner.
