Earth Day

Today, my Earth Day kicked off with watching a gymnasium full of 5-10 year olds sing about reducing, reusing, recycling, walking, biking, and turning off the tap when you brush you teeth. (OK, that last one was a bit challenging to set to a catchy tune, but you have to hand it to the music teachers who try). It was my daily dose of cute, all in one gulp, but it gave me hope too. We are raising a generation of kids who get the consequences of our impact on the planet in a way that I never did, and probably wouldn't have been capable of at that age.

The other day, as I was getting on my cycling gear to ride 10 km to work in an unseasonal sleet storm, my soon-to-be 9 year old called me a "Nature Girl". When I asked him why, his response was, "Even though the weather isn't very good you ride your bike because you care about nature". I thought that was the nicest compliment I'd had in a long time, and it made me feel a lot better about being a bit soggy when I got to the office.

How's your Earth Day? Tell us in the comments below.
