Save BC's Coastal Waters

The Dogwood Initiative is calling for a continuation of the moratorium on oil tanker traffic in BC's coastal waters. Artist Robert Bateman lends his support to the initiative in this video:

You can sign a petition to help ensure that BC's waters and marine life continue to be protected here. This petition opposes plans to build a supertanker port in Kitimat, a plan which is supported by both the provincial and federal governments.

If oil tankers begin to ply our West Coast waters, the question is not if there will be a spill, it's when.

And personally, I can't understand why we would want to increase our fossil fuel infrastructure at all when we are so clearly sliding down Hubbert's peak. Instead of pipelines and supertanker ports, why not wind farms and other investments in clean energy?
