A Great Day with Starhawk

The sun came out for Starhawk’s arrival to Gabriola Island, where she presented her workshop, “The Magic of Co-Creation: Creating Power in Groups” on May 14th.

It was an all-day event to remember, filled with newcomers and old-comers, words of wisdom and activities, food fresh from the garden and a full moon spiral dance.

Along with many volunteers, Watercliff Permaculture Farm organized this community event at the Gabriola Commons with an aim to strengthen collaboration in a time where people need to be standing together all over the world.

Starhawk delved into the many practices that her book, The Empowerment Manual outlines, and really connected with attendees through activities to explore the meanings behind her key concepts.

With sun hats and summer clothes, the New Society team was there. EJ, Judith and new intern Alina hosted the book table, connected with Starhawk and her readers, and enjoyed a day of learning how to really accept all types of people and what they bring to a group.

We’re now looking forward to the next event where we can connect with our readers. Heather Menzies will be at the Gabriola Commons on May 23rd from 5-8pm to celebrate the launch of her new book, Reclaiming the Commons for the Common Good. There will be a potluck dinner, rounded out with music, wine and great conversations!
