It's #GivingTuesday and we are supporting new farmers and you can too!

Following on the heels of Black Friday and Cyber Monday we have finally arrived at Giving Tuesday. For those who may prefer to skip out on the sales offered by major outlets in favour of a more civil and charitable option, this may be the day for you.

Now known as the “Opening day of the giving season,” it is a day where charities, companies and individuals join together to share commitments, rally for favourite causes and think about others.

For the past few years on #GivingTuesday we have been highlighting a charity, non-profit or community organization that we feel is making a difference in the world but who could use an extra hand...or a few extra help make that difference. This year we are proud to sponsor the Young Agrarians.

Young Agrarians (YA) is a network for new and young ecological and organic farmers. The network is made up of a diverse array of

food growers and lovers: rural and urban farmers, market gardeners, seed savers, food activists, bee keepers, community gardeners, food/farmer organizations and more - working to steward land and soil, and grow our local food systems.

With fewer people living on farms (Down to 2% in 2006 from 33% in 1931) and with the average age of a farmer over 55 years old, the Young Agrarians mission is to support new entrants in to the world of agriculture in their quest to farm and change the face of how we grow and eat food.

The Young Agrarians do this through mixers, workshops, connecting farmers to available land, business mentorships, co-ops, farm tours and much more. You can find out more about what they do and the programs the offer here. You can help support the next generation of farmers by donating to The Young Agrarians so they can continue to offer and grow their 2017 programs.
